Mesa View Middle School captures flag football championship game

Mustangs are the winning team.

The Mesa View Mustangs and the San Gorgonio Hurricanes squared off in the school district’s Flag Football Championship on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The game was played at San Gorgonio Middle School. There was good spectator turn out as both sidelines cheered loudly for their respected teams.

The Hurricanes started the game with some big running plays but the Mustangs’ defense made adjustments to contain the speed of the Hurricanes. The Mustangs had an interception that led to a touchdown followed by a successful 2-point conversion. The teams went into halftime with the Mustangs leading 14-0. The teams both played an energized second half.

The Hurricanes scored a late touchdown but the Mustangs offense pulled away winning the championship with a final score of 35-7.

The Mustangs were coached by Ed Garcia and assistant coach Jeff Novinger. Team members included: Greg Ouma, William Turner, Usher Shelton, Jake Garcia, Kyle Vargas, Luke Novinger, Chris Reed, Santos Saenz, Hayden Patriquin, Jack Canady, J J Devlin, Seth Nemec, Elijah Esquivel, Michael Henkis, James Beebee, Michael Leon and Matthew Rodriguez.
