I love my vets. My dad was in the Army during the Korean War. He heroically received two bronze stars and a purple heart; so being a patriotic daughter of this wonderful man and seeing many of my own friends who have served or are serving our country I wanted to show my support to our vets who sacrifice so much. A few years ago I joined the Yucaipa American Legion Auxiliary and I also volunteer at the Yucaipa VFW. It’s been a lot of fun and a very rewarding experience and I have made some great friends. I can attest to the great works they are doing for our vets no matter the age. From 18 years old to 108 our service clubs are an important part of this and every community.

They provide much needed places for our service members to be amongst their own. Lately there has been a drop in members, patrons and volunteers to our local clubs. The vets that visit these clubs truly rely on the services and programs offered though the Legion and the VFW. Not only do veterans enjoy the camaraderie of their brothers and sisters; they benefit from other services offered such as referrals, advocating for veterans benefits, one time assistance with a utility bill or other emergency assistance. They do wonderful things ... But our local service clubs are in need of support from our community. We need funding, patrons and volunteers to be able to continue to provide these much needed services to our vets.

Many people do not realize that the public is welcome and you do not have to be a member to join in some of the fun activities these clubs offer. Just sign in and come see what we are all about. Maybe you’ll want to become a member, maybe you’ll want to come for the karaoke, the food, the pool, happy hour or the great new friends you’ll make. Either way please join us and help these wonderful organizations continue to be able to help our local vets in need. Looking forward to seeing you!
