I see that Yucaipa’s City Council approved design features for a mural at the controversial future roundabout at Bryant Street and Yucaipa Boulevard. From what I understand the Public Arts Committee (PAC) will make recommendations and the Council will have final approval.

This is all well and good, but I have a recommendation for that mural at this high speed intersection. Last year long-time homebuilder/newspaper publisher Darrel Teeters was fatality struck down in the pedestrian lane at this intersection on his way to work. Mr. Teeters had been using this route to his office on Yucaipa Blvd. for many years and I know personally that he was getting concerned with the wild and unenforced traffic.

Speeding traffic at this intersection has become very dangerous and will get worse, in my opinion, with a roundabout. I don’t know what studies our city have made to justify a roundabout here, but to me it is in the wrong place and will be bad for vehicles and pedestrians.

Roundabouts aside, if a mural must go here, Darrel Teeters would be a worthy subject.

Yucaipa does not have a police traffic division so there is very little emphasis on traffic enforcement. Another example of city council negligence and ineptitude.
