Our Yucaipa/Calimesa area has recently experienced two major fires. During the fire based in Cherry Valley, I was watching on Wildwood Canyon Rd. and noticed fire engines and trucks from all over the state and even Arizona coming to our rescue. Even though I was there for only a little while, I could not believe how many engine companies were responding.

Then on the fire in Oak Glen, I spoke with two friends with homes in that area. Both said the same thing. The brave firemen held the fire back right up to their fence line. Their homes and ones around them, it was that close.

I am convinced that our local fire departments, by working with resources throughout the state and with air support saved everything from Cherry Valley to Forest Falls. I think we do not realize how big of a disaster was averted. This is all because of the bravery, quick thinking and skills of our local (and statewide) fire departments.
