The new Yucaipa Performing Arts Center is truly a great asset for Yucaipa and will help greatly in the resurgence of Uptown. Having said that, I was somewhat disappointed in the choice of the inaugurating acts at the recent Music and Arts Festival. The sound was off for Foghat (too much treble, not enough bass), in fact I thought the whole band was off, and the Blues Travelers were not much better. Booking washed up old 70s rock bands might save money but is no way to move forward. There is lots of local and new talent about, you only have to listen to local college radio such as KUCR (88.3) or KSPC (88.7) to realize that.

Perhaps the city could ask some of its younger members for suggestions. Further, I notice Beaumont at the annual Cherry Festival have some older acts, but at least they have recognized names such as Rick Springfield and Wynona from the Judds. Yucaipa has at least $40 million in the bank and a fantastic new facility. Let’s make the most of it.
