June’s got some major dates for me: Father’s Day, my dad’s my hero, this year Pentecost, the shared mind-blower that produced, among other results, Acts 4:32, everybody sharing everything, and, most notably, the ratification of our constitution on the 21st. Talk about thoughtful considerations of the complex, often ineffable array of human thought and interaction, the framers, however brutally distorted some were by unexamined prejudice, distilled it all into 11 pages of checks and balances, in particular Article V, the process to amend, our ERA currently engaged against entrenched, narrow-minded interests but climbing. To honor The Constitution’s passage and eventually that of the Equal Rights Amendment, I’m re-reading the Federalist Papers, originally 85 newspaper articles by Hamilton, Madison and Jay making the case to New Yorkers for ratification, and which can elicit in me throughout, 232 years later, “Whoa ... excellent, for sure!”
