The Yucaipa City Council should be commended for their proactive approach to getting businesses open in the city of Yucaipa. It would be a blessing to the people of California if the same logic demonstrated by the Yucaipa City Council existed on the state level in Sacramento and in Riverside/ San Bernardino Counties to lift business closures due to COVID-19. It almost feels like Governor Gavin Newsom is now initiating the Marxist principle of ending capitalism and instituting socialism in its place. California tax revenue and expenditures tell a compelling story that should concern us all. In California, 2000 tax revenue was (in billion U.S. dollars) 71.43 with expenditures of 78.05 Fast forward to 2019 and it was (in billion U.S. dollars) 151.63 in revenue and 153.08 in expenditures. To put California Government taxation in perspective, California's population grew 14% from 2000 to 2019 while California tax revenue during this period grew by 112%. To justify this 112% tax revenue growth from 2000 to 2019, the size of the economy would need to grow in tandem, as demand for government services and the ability of government to support those services would also increase. California real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2000 was 1,702 (in billion U.S. dollars) and in 2019 GDP was 2,792 (in billion U.S. dollars) a 64% increase. So the question is asked. If during the period of 2000 to 2019 California's population grew by 14% and real GDP grew by 64%, why has California's State taxation grown by a whopping 112% ? I specifically pose this question for a reason. By looking at these numbers the average resident can see that government in California has grown too large and is fiscally out of control. Governor Gavin Newsom's order to lock down our economy will clearly have a devastating impact on the future of California. We know that by looking at history, government has enacted steep tax increases during major wars. During the great depression the top marginal individual income tax rate went from 25% to 63%. Is this what Governor Gavin Newsom has planned for California?

California leadership at all levels, must unite against this repressive Marxist like regime in Sacramento and decide instead to be a viable Democracy. The People of California have not asked for an authoritarian style of government to solve our problems. The city of Yucaipa, in working within their circle of influence, are on the right track and should be a role model for Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Diligently care for the vulnerable, end the lock down as quickly as possible, and get our communities back to work. Keep up the good work, Yucaipa Strong.

Is there a more useless group than the Yucaipa City Council?

They draft a huge bloated tax increase for the voters to enact, then they waste public money pimping this tax increase trying to get gullible voters to enact it.

The City Council is unable to competently manage city funds. They are nothing but a rubber stamp for the overpaid, over benefitted over pensioned city staff. None of the council members should be re-elected. You can’t do much worse than the current crop of local politicos than the council unless it’s the totally worthless elected Board of the Yucaipa Valley Water District.
