Harry Allen Pelton Jr., 94, died on Jan. 24, 2020.
Harry Jr. was born May 9, 1925, in Los Angeles, to Harry Sr. and Ester Pelton. He grew up in the west Los Angeles area where his parents owned a motorcycle business. Harry married Marjean Morgan in 1946.
As a young adult Harry raced motorcycles with his father and competed in both flat track and scrambles. Following his service in the U.S. Army in WWII, Harry earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from University of California, Berkeley and later earned a master’s degree in engineering from University of Southern California. He worked for several aerospace companies before his long career at Aerospace Corporation, from which he retired in 1987.
Harry and Marjean were avid square dancers for many years. He and Marjean enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, trips to the family cabin in Mammoth Lake and abroad. He also enjoyed attending NASCAR races with his family. Harry’s devotion, love, and support for his country and family were hallmarks of his full life.
Harry is predeceased by Marjean Pelton (Aug. 4, 2017).
He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Bob and Terie Manning of Redlands; Bill and Jennifer (McLeod) Watkins of Mentone; and his son and wife Andrew and Patty Pelton of Redlands. Harry is also survived by five grandchildren: Debbie Hoffman, Nicole Dyess, Austin McLeod, Tamara Baze, Ian Pelton, seven great–grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Harry Pelton’s celebration of life will be Feb. 15, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 11251 Desert Lawn Drive, Calimesa, starting at 10 a.m., with a reception to follow.
