Geraldine (Gerry) Joyce Brown, 87, passed away July 9, 2018, in Yucaipa.
She was born Feb. 5, 1931 in Hillman, Mich.
Geraldine graduated from Atlanta Michigan High School in 1948. Gerry was well known as an athlete and could catch anything her brothers could throw. She then attended Central Michigan University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
After graduation she taught school in Japan and Scotland. Upon moving back to the States she settled in Yucaipa, where her parents and brother Robert and his family lived.
Geraldine was baptized Catholic on Nov. 17, 1962, and gave her heart in service to the community of St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church in Yucaipa for over 30 years.
She continued to teach in LA and San Bernardino in both public schools and Catholic schools upon her move to Yucaipa until her retirement.
She was instrumental in beginning and leading both the Stephens Ministry and Library Ministry at St. Frances X Cabrini Church, where her smile and love for God will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Eileen Hunt Brown and Jess Brown, sisters Ida Brown, Adelaide Tortora, and brothers Robert and Harold (Joe).
Geraldine is survived by brothers Richard of Hillman, Mich., and Charles of Sparta, Mich., as well as many nieces and nephews.
A vigil service will be held on Monday, July 16, at 6 p.m. at Emerson Bartlett Mortuary Yucaipa. Her Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday, July 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church followed by burial at Desert Lawn Cemetery.
