On Aug. 6, at 3:05 p.m. a bomb threat was reported and the 35000 block of Avenue E. was shut down. Suspect Peter Mathisen, a 46-year-old Yucaipa resident was arrested.

Deputies responded to a bomb threat on UPS vehicle which was called into the main office in San Bernardino. The driver of the UPS vehicle was unable to access a private community to deliver a package, so he turned around and left. The owner of the package was upset and called UPS’s main office and told them a package was going to explode. UPS was able to identify the delivery truck and contacted the driver who immediately pulled over and exited the vehicle.

Deputies arrived on scene and shut down Avenue E between Grant St and Ramada Ln. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson was notified and responded to the scene. Bombs and Arson x-rayed the package and found it contained gun powder and primers which were legally shipped and purchased.

San Bernardino Police located Mathisen at the UPS store and arrested him for an illegal handgun found in his vehicle. Investigation is still pending on the bomb threat. Avenue E was shut down for approximately three hours.
