Yucaipa T-birds are Citrus Belt League champions

The Yucaipa High girls basketball team became CBL champions Friday night when the Thunderbirds defeated Cajon. The victory gave them a perfect 10-0 CBL season and a second round home game this Saturday.

The Yucaipa High School girls basketball team is headed to the CIF Southern Section 2A playoffs for the ninth year in a row.

The Thunderbirds will host Mayfair High School, from Lakewood, in a second-round game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the YHS gym.

Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 students with identification or free with a Yucaipa High ASB card.

The Thunderbirds automatically advanced to the second round after clinching their third Citrus Belt League championship in 16 years. They finished a perfect 10-0 in league with a 58-37 victory over Cajon on Feb. 7.

Mayfair also received a first-round playoff bye after finishing the regular season at 18-5. Yucaipa heads into the playoffs at 21-4.

The winner of Saturday night’s game advances to the quarterfinals on Feb. 19, with the semifinals set for Feb. 22 and the championship game Feb. 29.
