The Yucaipa High School cross country team made a strong showing in the first meet of the season, the Asics Cool Breeze Evening Invitational, on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
The YHS Thunderbirds competed with dozens of schools from throughout the state. Medals were given to the top 30 runners in each age division.
The freshman/sophomore girls team took third place overall and had three medal winners: Sophomore Anna Runyan placed sixth; freshman Megan Carmell placed eighth and sophomore Savannah Ganter took 11th place.
YHS junior Carlee Wilkinson placed 17th in the junior varsity girls division. The sophomore boys team placed 19th and the freshman boys placed 24th in their divisions.
Both YHS varsity boys and girls team competed in the seeded Cool Breeze Showdown after dark. The YHS varsity boys team placed 13th overall with senior Justin Briscoe receiving a medal in 29th place.
The varsity girls team placed seventh overall in the seeded showdown and senior Dani Gee took 21st place and received a medal.

The YHS Thunderbirds next race will be the 39th annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Silverlakes Sports Complex in Norco.
