The Yucaipa-Calimesa School District Winter Choral Concert was held at Park View Middle School on Thursday, Dec. 7. The concert showcased choirs from Competitive Edge Charter Academy, Mesa View Middle School, Park View Middle School and Yucaipa High School.
Each of the choirs performed three Christmas themed songs and then all the choirs came together to perform “Jubilate Deo.”
The evening started with Competitive Edge Charter Academies Melody Makers, under the direction of Sally Greenleaf. The students performed “Russian Dance,” “Ose Shalom” and “Do You Hear What I Hear.”
The YCJUSD Elementary Honor Choir under the direction of Dennis Mussen followed them. This honor choir performed “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas,” “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree,” and “All I Want is Nuttin.”
Park View Middle Schools Cadet Choir performed “Under Winter Moon,” “Light A Candle” and “Marshmallow World” under the direction of Steve Stockman.
Mesa View Middle Schools Concert Choir delighted ears with “A Starry Night,” “A Gaelic Blessing” and “Seasons” which they were accompanied by 8th grade student and flutist Jiselle Ortiz. The Mesa View Choir was under the direction of Paul Kane.
The Competitive Edge Charter Academies CE Singers under the direction of Sally Greenleaf went with popular holiday tunes “White Christmas,” “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”
The Eagle Choir from Park View Middle School sang “In Olden Days,” “Baloo Baleerie” and “Mary, Did You Know?” under the direction of Steve Stockman.
The final choir to perform was Yucaipa High School’s Madrigal Singers under the direction of Kirk Young. They began by singing “Ding-a Ding-a Ding” acapella, followed by “Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.”
The last song was sang acapella as well, with the only word in the song being the word plum.
