Daughters of the American Revolution recognize Yucaipa High’s Ryan Grinnals

Ryan Grinnals was awarded the Good Citizen Award by DAR.

The Arrowhead Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held its annual DAR Good Citizen Award program on Friday, Feb. 14. This year’s program featured students from Redlands High School and Yucaipa High School.

Program Chair Cheryl Larick introduced this year’s award winners, Ashley Elias and Ryan Grinnals. Chapter members listened with pride while Elias and Grinnals read their award winning essays on the topic “Our American Heritage and our responsibility for preserving it. You and your peers are our nation’s leaders of tomorrow. How would you energize America’s youth to fully engage as effective citizens? Why is that important?”

Following their presentations, Larick presented each student with a NSDAR Good Citizen pin and certificate, wallet card and a modest monetary gift from Arrowhead Valley Chapter NSDAR.

The DAR Good Citizen Award and Scholarship Contest was created in 1934 and is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. These accomplished students represent diverse talents and interests from community activities to athletics, and possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism; they are selected by their teachers and peers.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.

Members are all lineal descendants of those who supported the cause of independence in the Revolutionary War. Arrowhead Valley Chapter NSDAR counts among its members those who work or live in the Inland Empire.
