Fire crews are planning for more prescribed burning operations this week across the San Bernardino National Forest. The burns will only commence if weather conditions are safe at the time and location of each site. The week's potential burns will be located near:

  • Idyllwild: Pile burning to the south of town on Tuesday within the burn scar of the 2018 Cranston Fire.
  • Big Bear: Pile burning east of Baldwin Lake, potentially on Thursday, off Arrastre Creek Road (Forest Road 2N04).
  • Angelus Oaks: Pile burning at the Converse Fire Station, which is located northeast of town in the Barton Flats area, on Tuesday.

Prescribed burning helps Forest staff achieve a number of goals, including reforestation (Idyllwild), firefighter and community safety (Big Bear) and facility brush clearance (Angelus Oaks).

Fire crews began prescribed burning operations last week within the Cranston Fire burn scar and accomplished approximately 40 acres.

For daily updates on prescribed burning operations, check the Forest's Alerts and Notices web page or Forest's Twitter account (accounts are not required for viewing tweets).
