On May 20, we recognize a refreshing treat on National Juice Slush Day!

On the third Wednesday of every May, National Juice Slush Day celebrates the icy delight that has come to be known as frozen juice slush. This national day started in America on May 16, 2018.

Royal courts from ages past used to bring down freshly fallen snow from mountain tops and spread crushed berries and mashed fruit on top. Little has changed. Billions of servings later the refreshing taste of icy fruit slush still thrills all ages. 

The world spins faster now. There just isn’t enough time to do everything that needs to be done. National Juice Slush Day dials back the pace and brings us to a more relaxed place. 

Ways to celebrate National Juice Slush Day…dance in the sunshine like nobody’s watching. Sip on a delicious juice slush and fire up some inspiration for that great American novel you want to write. Run, jump, or climb for the joy of it. Sing up to the stars between refreshing taste or just chill poolside. Share your favorite flavors and stories by using #NationalJuiceSlushDay on social media.

Today is a great day to make fruit slushie. To make a slushie with a blender place 2 cups of cold water, 1/2 cup of sugar, 4 cups ice, 1/2 cup of frozen fruit (or 1/3 cup of frozen fruit flavor) in your blender. Blend on high speed for 2 minutes until you get a smooth texture. Mix it with a spoon and check if all the ingredients are fully blended. (If necessary, add more liquid and blend a little more.) Serve instantly. 

MAKING A SLUSHIE WITHOUT A BLENDER: You will need a fruit drink or any cold drink, ice cubes, salt, 2 plastic bags (one quart and one gallon) and 5 minutes. Pour fruit juice into the quart sized bag and make sure it doesn’t leak. Put the sealed quart bag into the gallon bag. Add ice cubes and a little salt into the gallon bag. Continue by pouring ice and salt into the outer bag and sealing it from the top. After sealing the outer bag, shake it with your hands for about 3-5 minutes. While you’re shaking the bag, you’ll see the liquid drink turn into a slushie. After shaking the bag for 3-5 minutes, the slushie is ready to be served. (If you are not getting the texture you’d like, simply add a bit more ice and salt and that will get you the texture you want.) Unseal the outer bag, take out the inner bag, open it and serve the icee slushie drink.
