Yucaipa is getting another affordable senior housing development and residents of Calimesa and Yucaipa are excited about it. The project on Fifth Street and County Line Road, The Villas, 55+ Senior Housing Community, will be a resort-style development consisting of 96 units. Both city officials, local dignitaries and surrounding residents attended the groundbreaking ceremony on April 11, at the project site.

Yucaipa City Manager Ray Casey welcomed guests and said, “this is a really big opportunity to celebrate. We are very fortunate to have the leadership in Yucaipa with these types of projects.”

Casey credited city staff, especially Yucaipa Director of Community Development Paul Toomey, who provided guests with a project overview.

“This is a fun project to work on, which started back in 2014,” said Toomey. “Little did we know how quickly we would come to this. This 96-unit project is a great mix of affordability and provides a benefit to our community.”

Toomey said the tax credit from the project will inject $14 million into the local economy, both in Yucaipa and Calimesa.

Yucaipa Mayor Greg Bogh said, “The Villas will not only provide a secure environment, but also a place where like-minded citizens can connect with each other, live independently and comfortably.”

Bogh also talked about the importance of seniors finding a quality place to live. “This project provides seniors with an affordable place to live, giving them an ability to spend locally and invest in local enterprises. This also supports local employment in retail and service businesses.”

Randy Friend of Eagle Real Estate Group addressed the crowd.

“On behalf of the Eagle team, we are excited for this brand new resort-style senior community. Thank you city council for your commitment to the seniors.”

Friend said an Eagle tradition is sending a “pardon our dust” package to surrounding residents, which included a $100 gift certificate to a local car wash.

As with other projects, Eagle plans to include a local historical wall in the community center room. “We’ll display historical pictures and share the unbelievable history of Yucaipa,” Friend said.

The Villas will be a Santa Barbara Mission style community with a 2,800 square foot clubhouse, fitness center and a pool and Jacuzzi area for residents to enjoy. The 96-unit project will feature 32 two-bedroom and 64 one-bedroom units.

Other apartment features will include an individual washer and dryer, central A/C and heating, grab bars in the shower, refrigerator, microwave and a private balcony or patio.

The project is slated for completion in early spring, 2019.
