Rotary Charter fundraiser in Forest Falls brings neighboring communities together

Forest Falls has a new Rotary Club, thanks in part, to Yucaipa and other local Rotary Clubs. The newest Rotary Club held an inaugural spaghetti night fundraiser on May 25.

“It was great to see all the district clubs come out to support our event,” said Forest Falls resident and new Rotary member Alice Burgess-Willis. “The Yucaipa Rotary, specifically David Melcher, was a great help through his mentoring and getting the club started in Forest Falls along with promoting the charter event at numerous area club meetings for us.”

Dr. Mark Campbell, president of the Forest Falls Rotary chapter, explained why he wanted to start the service organization.

“The disasters we have here ... flatlanders don’t realize what’s going on 10 minutes up the road. It’s about the town of Forest Falls and other (communities) coming together.”

Yucaipa Rotary President Kent Colby concurred.

“We can all help each other,” he said. “We can do a lot. That’s what it’s all about. And this is a wonderful community.”

Colby and the Yucaipa Rotary crew presented the new Forest Falls Club with a bell and other gifts at the fundraiser on Saturday night.

A lively raffle and silent auction heated things up after a spaghetti buffet dinner.

New member and 11-year Forest Falls resident Karen Westphal said she’s glad she joined the new service organization.

“We joined because we really like to be involved in our community,” said Westphal. “I think it’s great that we have Rotary.”
