The Yucaipa City Council met on July 13, and City Manager Ray Casey introduced the new employee, Housing and Economic Development Analyst Caroline Velarde.
Casey said to council, “I just want to go through some of her responsibilities and there are many.”
“She coordinates our key real property deals and projects and those agreements related to that. Also businesses support, retention and outreach efforts. She is very involved in some of that now with the county funding that has been made available to businesses in the community throughout the county.”
Casey also told council that Velarde was also involved with the city funding as well including the CDGB (Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program). Velarde manages the economic development related city programs including the city’s incubator center, facade improvement program, and grant programs.
“She serves as a staff liaison for the Economic Development Advisory Committee. I call it the bus-driver roll. She has successfully taken on the bus-driver roll for our economic development activities in the COVID-19 funding opportunities for businesses in our community. She does it well. She interacts well with the community supporting existing perspective businesses in reaching their goals and facilitates the growth of Yucaipa’s economy to help create a premier quality of life for residents, visitors and business partners in this town,” said Casey.
Velarde has been responsible in solving several outstanding issues successfully. Casey said her follow-up was second to none and that she keeps track of everyone in their economic development efforts including the development community. Her tracking skills of issues that are required to complete development and complete agreements are essential to her daily tasks to keep all involved accomplishing the tasks required.
Casey said, “She has been working on the sale of the property on Thirteenth Street and Yucaipa Blvd., a potential development project on Oak Glen and Avenue E with Eagle Development … Earlier I spoke of the CBGD small business loan to grant program that she is working on. She has great communication and organization skills.”
Velarde’s hobbies include spending time with her daughter Lilly, her boyfriend Tim, also family and friends. She enjoys gathering interior design ideas for her home and playing with her dog Birkley and two bunnies Ginger and Carmel.
Velarde said, “It didn’t take me long to realize, when I got here, that it is a special place to work, special community and outstanding staff. I am really grateful for the opportunity to be part of the team and just helping the city prosper economically and my roll in that. I have taken a lot of great pride and of course with the support along the way. I appreciate the opportunity and continue to be blessed to be part of this team.”
