Knights of Columbus donate $3,188 to a local school

The check presentation is held at Mesa View Middle School.

St. Frances X Cabrini Council 9679 of the Knights of Columbus recently conducted its annual Tootsie Roll fundraising drive to benefit people with intellectual disabilities in the community.

The Knights were out at local Stater Bros. supermarkets in the community collecting money for the drive on Oct. 18, 19 and 20.

All proceeds stay in the community to help students in the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District.

On Nov. 21, Knights joined Yucaipa Mayor Bobby Duncan, Calimesa Mayor Pro Tem Linda Molina, YCJUSD Director of Student Services Jim Stolze, and other Knights, to deliver a check in the amount of $3,188.62 at Mesa View Middle School in Calimesa.

Executive Director of Student Services Jim Stolze said, “The school and the district are extremely grateful for the ongoing support from the Knights of Columbus. We appreciate the efforts put in through the Tootsie Roll drive. The proceeds support activities throughout the district including Mesa View.”

Columbiettes, Catholic Daughters of America and Respect Life Ministries all assisted in the fundraising efforts.

Senior Knight  JR Cruz, current grand Knight of the Council and SK Hector Romero, Tootsie Roll Chairman, attended the event on Nov. 21.

“We’d like to thank the communities of Yucaipa and Calimesa for making this all possible. If it wasn’t for them and their generosity, none of this would be possible,” said Romero.

Cruz concurred.

“When we are able to go to the classroom and interact with the kids, it’s very rewarding to see the fruit of your labor directly impact the students,” said Cruz. “It’s a true blessing. It hits you right in the heart.”

The Knights of Columbus were formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
