The city of Yucaipa continues to deliver important public infrastructure projects through successfully pursuing grant funding and partnerships that improve public safety, reduce traffic congestion, facilitate economic development in the community and improve overall quality of life for residents.
Mayor Pro Tem Denise Allen describes a particularly important infrastructure project. “The city is currently constructing a $2.5 million street improvement project along Avenue E between Second Street and Third Street. This project includes roundabouts at both Second Street and Third Street. It also includes sidewalks on both sides of the road. Studies have shown that roundabouts will help slow down traffic and improve safety for both pedestrians and vehicles alike. This project is being funded through Development Impact Fees and Countywide Measure I funding (not General Fund money).”
This project is the culmination of years of planning and design with the end result being a change to the General Plan. With roundabouts, only two lanes of roadway are required for this section of Avenue E versus the four lanes previously called for in the General Plan. This limits the impacts on the resident’s front yards and reduces the overall costs for this section of much needed roadway improvements. This is also true for some sections of the upcoming County Line Road improvements which are largely funded through grants.
The project should be completed by summer.
