Local church effort

Local churches collaborated together to ensure that those in need would receive a turkey meal for Thanksgiving. On Tuesday, Nov. 16,  from noon to 2 p.m. Green Valley Church will give away a turkey meal bag to the needy at 11656 Bryant St., Yucaipa.

The bag will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. A voluntary prayer service will precede the giveaway from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

A separate  Thanksgiving giveaway sit down dinner will be held Nov. 20, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Event coordinators said, Thanksgiving is the time for families to gather with friends and loved ones to celebrate the bounty of the season and give thanks for their blessings. And as this year's holiday fast approaches, a broad-based group of community churches and volunteers is planning to make the holiday festive for as many folks as possible.

Volunteers from Green Valley Christian Church, Foothill Bible Church, and Retreat Church will join forces to provide a free Thanksgiving buffet dinner on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at GVCC 11656 Bryant St., Yucaipa. The event first got under way in 2019 and served over 180 meals. The goal this year is to serve 250 meals.

“This event is intended for anybody and everybody,” said Pastor Greg Valdez of Green Valley Church. “And we want everyone to come and enjoy.”
