On Monday, April 15, deputies from the Yucaipa Police Department responded to a call of a vandalism that occurred at the victim's residence at the 12000 block of California St.. The victim reported that an unknown subject threw a large rock through the front door of her residence. The investigating deputy parked his vehicle across the street and began his investigation, eventually returning to his car to complete paperwork. While the deputy was seated in his marked sheriff's vehicle, the suspect returned and stopped across the street from the deputy. The suspect did not notice the deputy or his car and threw an additional rock through a window of the victim's home, then sped away.

The deputy attempted to stop the suspect, but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The driver ran several stop signs, pulled into an apartment complex in the 34000 block of Avenue A and the driver fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the driver was captured. The driver was identified as Steven Maine, 27, of Yucaipa, who is currently on felony probation for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The investigation revealed that the suspect did not know the victim of the vandalism.

Maine was booked into Central Detention Center for Felony Evading and Felony Vandalism. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
