Deputies conduct a traffic stop and find a convicted felon on PRCS in possession of a loaded handgun and narcotics

On Wednesday, June 19 at 11:28 p.m. deputies contacted Salvador Zuniga, 37, of Cabazon during a traffic stop at the corners of Seventh Street and Ave. E in Yucaipa. A record check revealed Zuniga to be unlicensed, and a convicted felon on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) due to a prior narcotics related charge.

During a search of Zuniga’s vehicle, deputies located a loaded 9MM handgun and a baggie containing several grams of methamphetamine. Zuniga is prohibited from owning firearms due to past criminal convictions.

Zuniga was booked at Central Detention Center on drug and weapons charges. Additional charges related to his possessing a firearm while prohibited and violating his PRCS will be sought through the criminal filing process.
