On June 30, deputies responded to the report of a man with a gun at the Stater Bros. in the 34400 block of Yucaipa Boulevard. Upon arrival, deputies were advised by the victim that a black male and an accompanying female got into a verbal argument with the victim inside the Stater Brothers grocery store. The argument continued outside in the parking lot. The male and the female got into a maroon Range Rover SUV, pointed a pistol at the victim and then fled the scene. The victim captured the license plate as CA 6EOE291. The victim was not injured.
On July 28, deputies from the Yucaipa Station conducted a traffic stop on a maroon Ranger Rover CA license plate 6EOE291. The driver was identified as Kamal Simon, 32, of Yucaipa and found to be in possession of a .380 caliber pistol. Through further investigation, Kamal was identified as the suspect who pointed the pistol at the victim. Kamal was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Central Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bail.
