On August 5, deputies responded to a reported vehicle theft in progress in the 12000 block of 11th Street. During the early morning hours, the victim heard noises outside his home and when he went outside, he saw an unknown white male in the driver’s seat of his car attempting to start the vehicle. When confronted by the victim, the suspect fled.

Deputies were on scene within minutes of the call being received and, approximately four minutes after arriving, located the suspect several blocks away from the crime scene. He was detained without incident and identified as Kevin Souter and 18-year-old transient. Souter was found to be on probation in Riverside County for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Investigation linked Souter to this attempted vehicle theft. He was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center with bail set at $50,000. He may face additional charges for violating his probation.
