On Aug. 7, deputies assigned to the Yucaipa Police Department were alerted by an Automated License Plate Reader hit (ALPR) of a stolen Honda Civic entering the city. Within approximately three minutes of receiving the call, deputies located the vehicle being driven on Avenue E near Ninth Street. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and took the driver, Rosalia Rios, a 36-year-old transient into custody without incident.

Investigation revealed the victim, a 61-year-old male resident of Desert Hot Springs, picked up Rios as she hitchhiked in the Palm Springs area. He stopped at an area business and went inside, at which time Rios stole his car. The vehicle was recovered undamaged and will be returned to the victim.

Rios was booked at Central Detention Center with bail set at $25,000.
