Calimesa voters who like to turn in their ballots as early as possible may want to hold on to them until after a city council candidate forum on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
The three candidates running for the two open council seats will answer questions from moderators Donna Lotz and Tony Phillips, both members of the Calimesa Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event.
The city council candidates are Jeff Cervantez, a member of the Community Services Commission, incumbent Jim Hyatt, who is running for his fifth four-year term, and Larry Smith, a member of the Planning Commission.
While Hyatt is running for re-election, the other seat is open because Mayor Jeff Hewitt had to vacate it to continue as a candidate for the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, Fifth District. He cannot be a candidate in both races.
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 6, but absentee ballots can be turned in beforehand.
The forum is open to the public and is set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Norton Younglove Multi-purpose Center, where city council meetings are held. The center is located at 908 Park Ave. in Calimesa.
