The Equestrian Arena Committee presented a special event permit application to city council on Monday, Nov. 27, for the Yucaipa Equestrian Arena Raise the Roof Rodeo.
The item was approved by city council in a unanimous 5-0 vote.
The committee requested that council approve the Special Event Permit Application submitted by the Yucaipa Equestrian Arena Committee to conduct the Raise the Roof Rodeo on Saturday, March 17, 2018; award and authorize the Mayor to execute a contract with Bulls and Barrels in the amount of $15,000 from the approved FY 2017/18 Adopted Budget, which includes an “upfront” deposit payment in the amount of $4,500, to produce the rodeo for the event; Authorize the city manager or his designee to administer the terms of the contract for the rodeo portion of the event; authorize the Yucaipa Equestrian Arena Committee to use the city owned vacant lot directly across California Street for parking; and approve a temporary traffic control plan for the intersection of California Street and Avenue G.
During the Equestrian Committee’s presentation, Vanessa Register spoke about the upcoming event.
“Our vision for this event is to bring together our community, raise funds to put a roof on the arena, share with others our fantastic arena, and encourage others to book events here,” said Equestrian Arena Committee member Vanessa Register.
The agenda item also seemed to bring out fellow supporters who sat and listened to the presentation from the audience, excited by the details of the upcoming event.
“Our hope is that this will be a much anticipated annual event, just like Autumnfest, Music and Arts Festival, and Winterfest,” continued Register.
The upcoming event is to raise funds for the roof, or cover for the equestrian center.
The equestrian center currently supports many local organizations, such as, the 4H equestrian club, Sheriffs Mounted Possee, California State Horeseman Association, and the high school rodeo and junior rodeo improvements.
“We will have vendors that have a Western theme, food vendors, line dancing lessons, various demonstrations during the day, queen of the rodeo, and a concert following the main event bulls and barrels,” Register said.
The Equestrian Arena Committee is excited to have Lynn Warren of 4H to run the Queen Program. The program will have a queen and her court. The queen and her court will be instrumental in obtaining sponsors and selling pre-sale tickets.
The committee also talked about its sponsorship program. The sponsor program features one gold, one silver, four bronze and unlimited hometown sponsors; business card advertising will also be implemented within the program.
“We are partnering with many excited local businesses to make this event great. We could not do this without the city of Yucaipa’s support. Thank you,” concluded Register.
The Yucaipa Equestrian Center is located at 13273 California St, Yucaipa, they can be reached at 295-8242.
