A brand new Fast 5 Car Wash is coming to Yucaipa.

The planning commission conducted a hearing, led by Associate Planner Benjamin Matlock, on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

The commission approved the final development plan, architectural design, and conceptual landscaping at the meeting.

“The 4,153 sq. feet express carwash with 19 self-serve vacuums, will be located on a property on the north-side of Yucaipa Boulevard at the intersection of Seventh Street,” said Matlock.

The project will be located within the Chapman Heights Development Plan.

“The proposed 3,989 square foot carwash building has been designed to run parallel to Yucaipa Boulevard, utilizing the relatively level area that is available within the subject parcel and to minimize any disruption of the steeper areas along the periphery of the parcel boundary. The car wash building includes the car wash tunnel, equipment room, office, and a restroom facility. The structure is located 61 feet from the right-of-way along Yucaipa Boulevard,” continued Matlock.

The hours of operation for the facility will be between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the cold winter months and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. during long summer days.

“Vehicle queuing is provided by a driveway located west of the Seventh Street intersection and loops towards the car wash tunnel, which would then mechanically move the vehicles towards the car wash exit on the east-side of the building. A 156 square foot sales office building is situated at the end of the vehicle queuing area, and four employee parking spaces are also provided within the queuing area,” Matlock said.

There will be 19 regular parking spaces and one handicap space at the vacuum area of the car wash facility.

“The carwash building is rectangular in shape, with a footprint generally measuring 136 feet by 32 feet. The building features a prominent 26 foot-tall tower element with a gable roof and knee brace corbels, flat concrete roof tiles, and a board and batten façade within the gable area that enhances the craftsman-inspired design,” Matlock said.

The architecture will follow a craftsman design.

“The landscaping is conditioned to meet the city’s water conservation ordinance,” said Matlock.

It was also said the landscaping around the carwash will greatly compliment the design of the building.

In an unanimous vote, Yucaipa Planning Commission approved the car wash.

“The car wash application has been submitted to the city for quite some time. Although no public comments were made during the commission meeting opposing the project, the city did receive a few letters from locals,” said Director of Community Development Paul Toomey.

The next regular planning commission meeting will be held on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Yucaipa City Hall chambers, 34272 Yucaipa Blvd.
