Janice Mildred McLaughlin, 68, died peacefully on Dec. 2, 2013 at the home of her son in Louisville, Kentucky following a brief illness and struggle with liver cancer.

Born Nov. 1, 1945 in River side, to Dorothy and Lloyd McLaughlin, she grew up on a ranch in Live Oak Canyon, where she and her older brother Sidney rode horses and enjoyed countless hours playing in the large hay barn behind a historical ranch house belonging to her mother’s father, well-known rancher Hershel Power, who moved the old house from Beaumont to Live Oak Canyon when Lloyd and Dorothy were married.

Janice attended Crafton and Dunlap Elementary Schools and graduated from Yucaipa High School in 1963, where she enjoyed playing violin in the school orchestra, taking art lessons and excelling in math. After high school, she learned bookkeeping and accounting skills and later worked for Indian Wells Condo Share, retiring in 2010. She returned home to Calimesa then, where she devoted her time to the care of her beloved mother Dorothy until her passing earlier this year.

Learning to drive the ranch vehicles and work on them at an early age, she took an interest in old cars and trucks. She kept, restored and drove her father’s old ranch pickup truck and loved the animated movie, “Cars” - the character Light ning McQueen was her fav orite. She enjoyed going to stock car races, eating Mexican food with chocolate mint desserts and taking her mother and childhood friend Barbara Geyer Paddy out for Saturday breakfasts around Yucaipa-Calimesa and Redlands. Her favorite hobby was collecting rocks and she took great pride in learning and using American Sign Language.

She had a beautiful smile that always made everyone feel joyful and an infectious giggle that lifted the heart and spirit, both of which she shared with her family and friends. She loved the words of the 23rd Psalm “The Lord is my Shep herd.”

She is survived by her son, Reeson Flores and his wife Raytisha, two grandchildren - Azariah Flores and Rayna Flor es, Aunt Evelyn Frost, sister-in-law Gloria McLaughlin, neph ew Ty McLaughlin, his wife Kris and their two children.

She was predeceased by her brother Sidney McLaughlin in 1985, her father Lloyd in 1986 and her mother Dorothy in Feb. 2013. No service is planned.
